Duchess Meghan Supports Hate Crime Victim in 40-Minute Personal Phone Call

Althea Bernstein is an 18-year-old biracial woman who says she was recently set on fire by four white men as part of a vicious hate crime in Wisconsin.

The attackers allegedly sprayed liquid into Althea’s face after calling her a racial slur at a stoplight. Then, they threw a flaming lighter at her, and the liquid ignited.

The assault is being investigated by police. But in the meantime, Duchess Meghan has reached out to show support for Althea.

Meghan Markle Reaches Out to Althea Bernstein, Hate Crime Victim

Channel 3000 and Harper’s Bazaar report that “the president of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, Michael Johnson, connected Bernstein with Duchess Meghan for a 40-minute phone call.”

Johnson told Channel 3000, “[They] talked about the importance of self care and allowing herself to heal. And she applauded her for the way that she responded and pretty much said, ‘Hey Michael, give me her cellphone number. I want to stay in touch. And let me know when you want me to come back and talk to people in Wisconsin.'”
