Royal Roundup: Ghost Emojis, Cornwall Holidays, and Bad News for Andrew

Welcome back, Royal Watchers! We’ve got a lovely selection of gossip about the Windsors today, including the quirky way Harry flirted with Meghan over text. We’ll also join Kate, William, and the kids on holiday in Cornwall. You’ll need that cuteness to carry you through the horrifying details just revealed in unsealed court documents about Prince Andrew.

Story #1: Harry Loves Emojis

Apparently, Prince Harry is a big fan of texting his ladies. Before he met Meghan, he allegedly texted girlfriend Cressida Bonas non-stop. Back in 2014, an anonymous insider told Us Weekly that “It’s emoji central with those two. The chat window on his phone is incredibly colorful.”

In an excerpt from Finding Freedom, authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie revealed that Harry still relies heavily on emojis–and his favorite is the ghost emoji?

“His messages were often short and full of emojis, in particular the ghost emoji, which he often used instead of a smiley face,” write the authors. “For what reason? Nobody knows. But Meghan found his texting etiquette funny and adorable, just like the prince.”

Maybe the ghost emoji was a cute inside joke between them after their first date?

Story #2: The Cambridges in Cornwall

William and Kate packed up the kids for a vacation in Cornwall this week. The Cambridges are gearing up to send the oldest children back to school, and in the grand tradition of family vacations, they spent a week by the seaside.

The Cornish coast is breathtaking–but the island where they stayed has a special significance for William. He spent a summer there with his parents and younger brother in 1989.

In addition, the Duchy of Cornwall is Charles’ domain; he famously turned it into one of the most profitable areas of England, and most of Harry and William’s money comes from the income generated by the land.

Story #3: Unsealed Court Documents Could Be Bad for Andrew

We won’t spend too much time on this story today. For one, it’s really unpleasant. But for another, it’s likely to get bigger (read: worse) for the Royal Family soon. So consider this a quick update in the ongoing Prince Andrew scandal. Here’s what you need to know.

Virginia Roberts Giuffre is the woman at the heart of the accusations against Andrew, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Jeffrey Epstein. Even though Epstein is dead and Maxwell is in prison, she’s still fighting to have her story heard and for whatever justice she can get.

Part of that fight involved having the documents in her 2016 civil battle with Ghislaine Maxwell unsealed. It doesn’t really tell us anything new about Andrew. The main focus in the media is on her statements about Bill Clinton. But the longer this story stays in the news, the less likely it is that Andrew will ever be able to leave his Windsor Castle bunker.
